Someone needs to take a few steps back here. There’s a new report that suggests Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez might not have told the truth and nothing but the truth when she shared distressing details about her experience on January 6 throughout a more than one-hour broadcast on Instagram Live.
She spoke of hiding in her office as the mob breached the Capitol and how she hid behind the door in a bathroom as she heard people ransacking the rooms outside. But some people are saying that AOC might have exaggerated some of what she said. Here’s what you need to know.
Did Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Lie About Her ‘Trauma’ from The Capitol Riot?
The controversy erupted after the New York congresswoman posted a video in which she described a confrontation with Capitol Police at her office, which is located on the larger Capitol complex.
However, in an Instagram Live that she posted earlier this week, the Congresswoman pointed out that it hasn’t been easy to “move on” from the Capitol riots from last month as she is constantly being reminded of the same tactics that her abuser had also made in the past.
She for the first time recounted in detail what she had earlier described her near-death experience during the attempted insurrection by Donald Trump supporters.
“These folks who tell us to ‘move on,’ that it’s not a big deal, that we should forget what happened or even telling us to apologize — these are the same tactics of abusers,” she said. “And I’m a survivor of sexual assault.”
According to Page Six though, sources say that she was not at the site of the siege, but in an office building nearby. AOC was reportedly in her office, which is located in the Cannon building, when rioters stormed the Capitol. The building is part of the overall Capitol complex, but is not within the Capitol building itself.
So far AOC has not made any comments about the claims.
