No matter what the outcome of this trial will be, all parties will lose. According to new reports, a recording of Johnny Depp threatening his then-wife Amber Heard of a “bloodbath” if their argument would escalate was heard in a courtroom this past week. On Monday, jurors heard the recordings as Depp continued to give evidence in the defamation trial, taking place in Fairfax County, Virginia, which is now in its third week. Here’s what you need to know.
“The next move, if I don’t walk away… it’s going to be a bloodbath, like it was on the island,” Depp says on the recording. In other audio clips, Depp loudly shouts at his wife, yelling, “You stupid, fat a**” at her.
So What Did Johnny Depp Mean When He Warned Amber Heard Of A Bloodbath?
As many fans know by now, Depp filed the defamation suit against Heard over a column she wrote for the Washington Post in December 2018 in which she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” However, Heard never named Depp, whom she met in 2009 on the set of the film The Rum Diary, but he sued her for implying he was a domestic abuser and is seeking $50 million in damages.
Heard has countersued, asking for $100 million and claiming she suffered “rampant physical violence and abuse” at his hands.
“Nothing less than everything,” he replied. “When the allegations were rapidly circling the globe, telling people that I was a drunken cocaine-fuelled menace who beat women – suddenly in my 50s – it’s over.”
While the libel lawsuit is supposed to center on whether Depp was defamed in the article, most of the trial has focused on ugly details of the couple’s brief marriage. Heard’s lawyers continued to focused on Depp’s drinking, drug use and charged interactions with Heard during their relationship.
Depp has denied all allegations that he has ever assaulted Heard. Her lawyers argue that Depp physically and sexually abused her and that his denials lack merit because he was often drunk and high to the point of blacking out.
