Demi Lovato is speaking her mind. The chart topper says that she is no fan of gender reveal parties and that she thinks the trend is “transphobic.”
She shared her thoughts on the matter in a lengthy Instagram post, in which she thinks that gender reveal parties are part of a belief system that presumes non-trans people are more natural than trans people. As many fans know, Demi Lovato is a huge transgender rights activist. Here’s what she has to say.
Demi Lovato Hates Gender Reveal Parties
Demi says that it is “both insincere and incorrect to pretend that gender reveal parties are not transphobic.”
“This is not about political correctness, it’s just … correct,” the post adds. “We condemn gender reveals not because of our identity, but because of reality.”
“Gender reveals are based on the illusion that genitals = gender and that there are only two options ‘boy or girl’,” the post continued.
“This definition erases the fact that there are boys with vaginas and girls with penises and that there are people who are neither boys nor girls. The idea that sex is based on genitalia is inconsistent with science.”
Of course, it didn’t take very long for Demi’s fans to comment on the matter. Most of them left comments on her Instagram page such as, “You can’t condemn how parents decide to well be parents. That is hypocritical to all you extreme liberals. Live and let other live. Stop thinking you know what’s best for other people,” along with, “Reveal parties aren’t transphobic, it’s a cute thing for new parents to do. Not everything has a woke agenda.”
Another critic wrote, “Gender reveals are about the surprise of having a girl or boy at baby stage. If the child chooses later to change then it’s their choice.”
