Dave Chappelle has responded to his critics by asking those who are against him to donate towards his High School in order to stop them from naming a theatre after him.

Dave, for his part, has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Following the release of his Netflix show entitled ‘The Closer,’ his critics have argued that his jokes were deemed to be mocking the LGBTQ community and therefore transphobic.

Things had gotten so out of hand that Dave was recently called a ‘child’ during a return to his high school at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Georgetown.

As of now, the decision to name the theatre after him has apparently been postponed until April next year in order to allow the school to engage in sufficient dialogue with all the students.

But rather than letting the school just do that, Dave has asked his detractors to double down on their beliefs by donating to the school to call it something else.

In a post to his fans on Instagram, Dave had a picture of himself alongside some other students on stage. He is holding the hand of another student while punching it in the air.

The post was captioned by the following comments: “If you object to my receiving this honour, I urge you to donate to the school, noting your objection.”

This begs the question, if Dave was such a controversial figure, then why would he be considered as somebody to name the theatre after?

Well, aside from the fact that he had attended the school, it turns out that the organisation had actually wanted to name it after him.

Therefore, by turning it down, he could equally be seen in a negative light, given that it would show he has forgotten his roots. With that in mind, without an intervention actually occurring, it would signify that he is entitled to have his name recognised.

His following comments confirmed as much: “If you don’t care enough to donate… please shut the f— up, forever.” If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
