Sally Spectra’s emotional journey on ‘The Young and the Restless’ is continuing to take deeply personal turns, and Courtney Hope is offering rare insight into just how much her character is still carrying from the past.

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Hope discussed Sally’s lingering grief over the loss of baby Ava and how that trauma continues to shape her relationships, decisions, and emotional state in Genoa City.

Baby Ava’s Loss Continues to Haunt Sally

Even as Sally tries to move forward in her life, Courtney Hope made it clear that the emotional impact of losing baby Ava has never truly left her character.

“She feels like it was her fault. Yes, extenuating circumstances came into play, but I think in her mind, she truly believes that it was something that she did or didn’t do, or something that she could have done better. I think off the bat, there’s more fear than excitement — but as time goes on, I think the fear naturally starts to subside and the excitement rises,” she told Soap Opera Digest.

Hope explained that Sally’s grief is not something that fades neatly into the background. Instead, it remains part of who she is, influencing how she reacts to love, trust, and vulnerability.

That unresolved pain is now surfacing again as new complications develop in her personal life.

Sally Turns to Audra in a Moment of Emotional Crisis

One of the most intriguing aspects of the current storyline is Sally choosing to confide in Audra during a moment of emotional uncertainty.

This decision highlights how emotionally conflicted Sally has become as she navigates her relationship with Billy and her own fears about the future.

Hope suggested that Sally’s choices are often rooted in emotional survival, especially when she feels overwhelmed by past trauma resurfacing.

Courtney Hope also spoke candidly about the dynamic between Sally and Audra, describing it as one of the most significant emotional bonds in Sally’s life right now.

    “Audra Is Sally’s Strongest Relationship”

According to Hope, the connection between the two women is built on honesty and emotional understanding, even when they don’t always see eye to eye.

Billy, Audra, and Rising Emotional Tension

As Sally struggles with her feelings, Billy remains a key figure in her life—but not necessarily one she feels fully safe opening up to.

The interview highlights how Sally’s hesitation is rooted in fear of repeating past heartbreak, especially anything tied to motherhood and loss.

“She wanted it to be positive, but there’s so much there, because it wasn’t planned and she and Billy just got back together. And what does it look like if something goes wrong again? But I think that all in all, Sally really wants to be a mom and really wants to have a family. So, she wanted it to be positive, but she almost wasn’t allowing herself to be happy or excited or hopeful about it because she’s just scared right now,” she told.

Meanwhile, Audra becomes an unexpected emotional outlet, creating a complicated dynamic that continues to evolve as the storyline progresses.

Courtney Hope on Playing Sally’s Emotional Layers

Hope’s portrayal of Sally continues to stand out for its emotional depth and realism.

Hope emphasized the importance of allowing Sally’s trauma to exist beneath the surface rather than being quickly resolved for the sake of plot convenience.

This approach gives Sally’s current storyline more weight, as her grief over baby Ava subtly influences everything she does.

What makes Sally’s current arc so compelling is the way The Young and the Restless continues to acknowledge that grief doesn’t simply disappear.

Instead, it evolves, resurfaces, and reshapes relationships over time.

I have many titles that I’m proud of – a political science major, world traveler, social media influencer and of course a mom! I am 32 years old and was born in Montreal, QC, Canada. My husband Daniel is my second half, and I have a hard time remembering life without him! We met when I was 18, and we instantly had a strong connection. I credit our long relationship to being best friends, before anything else. One of my greatest desires as an online influencer is to show other parents that it is possible to balance everyday life with parenthood. Parents can still have interests while sharing them with the best individuals of all – their children.
