Coronation Street spoilers finds that It was a star-studded night at the O2 Arena in London on Monday night as the 25th National Television Awards honoured the past year on television. There were two big wins for Coronation Street on the night, but there was one award that escaped their clutches.
Little Britain and Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams was the host on the evening, but his jokes didn’t all go down so well. Walliams poked fun at Love Island host Caroline Flack during the show, which saw him booed. However, that wasn’t enough to take the gloss off a big night for the soaps.
Coronation Street Spoilers: Stars Win Gongs
The Serial Drama Performance award was one of the big prizes up for grabs last night, and Coronation Street’s Katie McGlynn fought off competition from Danny Miller and Danny Dyer to win the award. McGlynn was the popular pick among the audience after her heart-breaking portrayal as Sinead Tinker on Weatherfield.
She was emotional during her acceptance speech but was quick to thank all the team at Coronation Street, before dedicating the award to anybody that has been affected by cervical cancer. There was more success for Corrie in the Newcomer category. Peter Ash picked up the award over Max Bowden from EastEnders.
Coronation Street Spoilers: Emmerdale Picks Up Big Award
The prestigious Serial Drama award was won once again by Emmerdale for the fourth consecutive year. The soap managed to achieve the honour by fighting off competition from Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and EastEnders. The biggest shock of the night came in the Comedy Programme category. Mrs Brown’s Boys overcame the odds to beat Derry Girls, Sex Education, Fleabag and After Life. There were also big successes for Peaky Blinders. As the gang drama won the best Drama accolade ahead of Killing Eve and Line of Duty. Cillian Murphy also won best Drama Performance for his portrayal of Tommy Shelby in the drama. The James Cordon and Ruth Jones written Gavin & Stacey was also honoured by the Impact award after it was watched by a quarter of the United Kingdom on Christmas Day to mark its first return to television in ten years.
