Comedian Heather McDonald has not held back on her outrage over the fact that Dave Chappelle’s attacker Isaiah Lee will not be charged with a felony for ‘assault with a deadly weapon.’

The defendant did perhaps have a lucky escape when we look at the exact nature of events that had occurred. Dave had been performing at the Netflix Is A Joke’ festival on Tuesday, 3rd May 2022.

That is when Isaiah had accosted the comedian with a replica gun, which had a folding blade. Given the severity of the incident, Heather could not understand why the defendant was only given four misdemeanor charges, but no felony ones.

And she let everyone know in no uncertain terms that this was out of order. According to TMZ, Heather felt the following: “She believes [the judge George Gascón] should be recalled.”

Heather’s grievances are entirely understandable for the following reasons. First of all, it has set the dangerous precedent that people can carry out further attacks against comedians simply because they do not like what they have said and then get off with a light punishment.

Secondly, if the law enforcement authorities do not prosecute cases such as this in a manner that they should otherwise do, then it leads to a situation where comedians are not offered that adequate protection.

That is why Heather has felt that she has had no option but to take her own security measures, given that she does not currently have that set up. In a statement, she remarked: “Unlike, Dave Chappelle, I travel alone.

“And [I] do not have private security or ten strapping male friends hanging out backstage when I perform.” It is clear that something needs to be done in order to prevent crimes like this from happening again, but whether that is more security or tougher punishments is anyone’s guess.

We will have to see how this develops in the future. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
