Bonnie McFarlane has been slammed after she stated that the #FreeBritney movement was a ‘mistake.’

The organic movement arose as a response to the increasing worry that was going around in response to Britney Spears’ well being. She had been, after all, stuck in a conservatorship for over a decade under the control of her father, Jamie Spears.

And during this time, it became clear that Britney was not in control of her life. Naturally,  when she managed to obtain a court victory that no longer allowed her to be under any constraints, this success was credited to the fans.

Britney even credited the rise of the #FreeBritney movement as being critical to her success. So when Bonnie made those remarks, it was hard to reconcile. In a post to her fans on Twitter, Bonnie said: “That free Britney thing might’ve been a mistake.”

It is not clear what the circumstances were which led to Bonnie stating this, nor is it clear what her intentions were. But the comments did come shortly after Britney posted some nude photos of herself.

Therefore, outside of an alternative explanation to the contrary, the comedian’s remarks could only be interpreted as mocking Britney. It is not surprising to hear that a large number of fans came out to support the singer after everything she had been through.

And they did not hold back in letting Bonnie know exactly how much they disapproved of her comments. One fan wrote: “This isn’t the take you thought it was. She’s allowed to post whatever she wants especially while she heals from the decade of trauma.”

While another person stated: “Because she is comfortable showing her body? Or because she’s a little quirky? Freedom isn’t based on what you decide is ‘normal.’”

Bonnie has learnt that Britney has an army of loyal fans that will continue to defend her until the end. With that being said, it is probably wise that she avoids criticising Britney in the future and focuses on something else. So there you have it folks.
