CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers reveal that star Tyler Johnson (Theo Vanderway) says that he has a very strong connection to his character and that he understands why he’s always “on guard” in this fictional town of Genoa City. Here’s what he has to say.
In a new interview with Soap Opera Digest, the handsome actor admits that he was automatically drawn to his character, especially when Theo was first described to him by the producers of the show during his casting. He recalled, “I knew he was outwardly confident and flashy, a real smooth talker. I knew he had a bone to pick with Kyle. The more material they gave me, the more I interpreted his flashiness as a compensation for a lack of true inner security. It was then that his veneer became apparent — his shield, his sword, always on guard.”

And while Theo seems like the kind of guy who is always in control (or someone who wants that control), Tyler says that he has had a few mishaps behind the scenes, but they weren’t big ones, thank goodness.
He said, “I really put the onus on [myself] to rehearse the dialogue. However, I have been known to walk the wrong way out of a scene, or trip coming out of an elevator. I also love eating the food. I’ve definitely chewed with my mouth open on an occasion. Sorry, Mom!”
Because he is definitely considered one of the rising stars of the daytime television world right now, Tyler says that he has been recognized in public by Y&R fans and viewers. He explained, “It’s always an honor. [It happens] less now with current parameters; I wear a mask everywhere. But among my friends’ family trees, I have found some surprising Theo fans, and that is always both a surprise and a blessing to hear.”
