Cardi B has slammed Madonna after she threw shade at the singer by claiming that the success of the rapper’s song ‘WAP’ was in part due to Madonna’s ‘Material Girl.’
Cardi B SLAMS Madonna Amid Their Social Media Feud-‘I Grew Up Listening To Her’
The feud all started when Cardi became unhappy with Madonna’s social media post which claimed that her 1992 book entitled ‘Sex’ allowed female artists to be more expressive in nature.
And given that Madonna felt she was unfairly called out for her racy images, in comparison to other artists, she slammed Cardi for failing to pay homage to her since Madonna viewed herself as a pioneer of that.
In her comments at the time, Madonna remarked: “[I] spent the next few years being interviewed by narrow minded people who tried to shame [her] for empowering [herself] as a Woman. [I] was called a whore, a witch, a heretic and the devil.
“Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP…You’re welcome bitches.” This did not sit very well with Cardi for the following reasons. First of all, she made it absolutely clear that she had already paid homage to Madonna throughout the years as being someone that influenced her.
Secondly, given that Cardi viewed Madonna as an icon, she was left disappointed by the fact that her idol had such disdain for her. In an official response to her comments, Cardi stated: “I literally [paid] this woman homage so many times cause I grew up listening to her.
“She can make her point without putting clown emojis and getting slick out the mouth. These icons really become disappointments.” Nevertheless, it is also important to bear in mind this point.
Cardi was not the only person that Madonna ended up calling out, as she did reference Kim Kardashian’s racy photoshoots, as well as Miley Cyrus’ infamous song ‘Wrecking Ball.’ While that does not negate what Madonna had said about Cardi, it does provide some much-needed context.
