So, did everyone forget that literally in 2015 we had an official live-action reboot by Disney with Lily James as Cinderella or was that one just not talked about enough so they decided to do it again? Okay then. But this time they added a little bit of spice, this time they would cast Camilla Cabello as Cinderella (not gonna lie, she makes a pretty Cinderella) and Billie Porter as the fairy godmother, a potrayal that’s going to be as genderless as possible and in this one they’re going to call the Fairy Godmother “Fab G” okay, we see you.
Idina Menzel of “Frozen” and “Rent” (anybody remember that musical?) fame will be playing the Wicked Stepmother, which will be pretty interesting considering her last Disney role as Elsa was a good guy. This means that we may have a really, really epic villain song in here.
Camilla Cabello as Cinderella?
Not that Idina’s acting is bad, but she’s way more known for her pipes. Pierce Brosnan is going to play the King, interesting choice. They’ve apparently added a town crier role to this instance that will star Missy Elliot.
‘Scuse me, my brain suddenly flashed back to the Lady Marmalade Moulin Rouge video (which I admit, I still watch every now and again when I’m reliving my teenage years), and that’s one of those things you file under “Things that make you go huh?”.
The movie is going to be released on amazon prime on September 3rd, and thank God for that, some of us are just not risking the Delta Variant anytime soon. Besides that, watching a movie through amazon prime lets one bring one’s own snacks to the film and if that so happens to be something not so theater friendly (but equally delicious) then that makes the experience all the more enjoyable.
Either way, it looks like it’s going to be a full-on musical extravaganza so one wonders just who did the songs for it, but since so much musical talent was involved, maybe it was a group effort? We’ll have to see how this measures up to the OG. Stay tuned!!!
