Broadchurch spoilers finds that British television is renowned for its gritty crime dramas centring around solid police work, and one of the very best to have been broadcast is ‘Broadchurch’. If you haven’t already watched this thriller, then you will be in for a treat. Broadchurch will ensure that you’re on the edge of your seat through, questioning whether you could correctly predict the guilty character.

In total there are three seasons, with eight episodes in each. Each season centres around a different crime, with the lead detectives being Detector Inspector Alec Hardy and Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller. The star power in the show is enough to ensure that newcomers are engaged.

Broadchurch Spoilers: Who Is In Broadchurch?

Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller are the main characters tasked with cracking the case, and they are played by David Tennant and Olivia Colman respectively. Tennant is most famous for his role as Doctor Who, while the whole world saw the talent of Colman, as she picked up an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for her role in The Favourite.

As well as the two star leads, the show also boasts Jodie Whitaker (Doctor Who), Vicky McClure (Line of Duty) and Sir Lenny Henry (The Syndicate). Each season centres on a new plot. The first season focuses on the murder of an eleven-year-old boy, while the second follows the subsequent trial. The third goes in a different direction as it centres on a sexual abuse crime against another resident in the coastal town.

Broadchurch Spoilers: How Successful Was Broadchurch?

Broadchurch was critically acclaimed throughout its four-year run. Every season attracted at least nine million viewers in the United Kingdom, with the final season attracting 10.75 million average viewers. One review also claimed that it became a ‘national obsession’, with many viewers talking about the show on a daily basis trying to work out how the story would develop.

The third season also won an award, as it took home to Best Crime Show accolade at the National Television Awards. In doing so, it beat off stern competition in the form of Line of Duty and Sherlock. There aren’t many police dramas that can compete with Broadchurch, which means it is a must-watch for anyone that loves that genre of television.
