British royal family news finds that fans would have been aware that this week marked the 67th anniversary since Queen Elizabeth took the throne. Her Majesty’s coronation took place in 1953 at Westminster Abbey, and she was given a special gift this week in the form of a winner at Kempton. Her Majesty is a huge fan of horse racing, but like many of us, she would have been forced to watch the action at the all-weather track on the television this week.

Horse racing became the first elite sport to return in the United Kingdom this week, with Newcastle playing host to the first race day. However, all the events will be taking place behind closed doors for the foreseeable future. However, all events are still being televised in the UK, with dedicated channels hosting all the action.

British Royal Family News: Coronation Winner For Her Majesty

The Queen has had a long history of owning horses that have raced, with her most recent winner being First Retriever in the Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained horse was ridden to victory by established jockey Ryan Moore and was the heavy favourite with the bookmakers to get the win.

First Retriever started keenly but was challenged for the lead. However, the three-year-old was able to hang on for the win and travelled at his peak with two furlongs remaining. The Queen will now be hoping for more winners when the action takes over at Newmarket today, before all eyes turn to the lucrative Royal Ascot meeting.

British Royal Family News: Queen’s Esteemed Success On The Race Course

The Queen has had some talented thoroughbred horses throughout her reign. She very nearly got a winner in her year of coronation, with Aureole finishing second in the Epsom Derby in 1953. However, Her Majesty didn’t have to wait long for success in the classics, with Dunfermline winning the St Leger Stakes and Epsom Oaks in 1977.

It was revealed recently that the Queen is a frequent reader of the British newspaper the Racing Post. The publication has the full information regarding the racing on the day, with insightful tips. Estimate saw the Queen make history in 2013, as Her Majesty became the only reigning monarch to win the Ascot Gold Cup. It will be a feat that the Queen will be hoping to repeat later this month.
