British royal family news has revealed that Prince William is wary about the damage that could be caused by calling NHS frontline workers ‘heroes’. In the BBC documentary ‘Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health’, the Duke of Cambridge revealed that calling NHS staff heroes could have a negative effect on their mental health.
He revealed calling them by that tag could be harmful to the legacy of the staff members that have been vitally important throughout the pandemic. The Prince admitted that the staff are ‘superstars’ and their work should rightly be applauded. However, calling staff ‘heroes’ could mean that they are carrying a ‘burden’ and may not reach out for help should they need it.
British Royal Family News: Possible End For Clap For Carers
Every Thursday, the United Kingdom have been stepping outside their front door to clay for carers. The movement has been a heartwarming one, with videos revealing the vast number of people that were taking part. The idea was used to honour the heroes that are on the frontline of staff that have needed to come face to face to the coronavirus.
However, it has been revealed that last night’s clap for carers could be the final one. Last night marked the tenth week in a row that people from the United Kingdom have stepped outside their homes. The woman who founded the movement has also revealed that the movement is now being used as a political tool and that means it should now end.
British Royal Family News: William Reveals Mental Health Battle For NHS Staff
Before the airing of the documentary last night, William spoke on The One Show. In the interview he revealed that staff on the NHS are still finding it incredibly difficult to open up about their battle with mental health, and he revealed that the ‘hero’ tag could be having an adverse effect. He also revealed that the stress put on the staff could have a long-term effect on the health service.
Those views were echoed by Professor Neil Greenberg, who revealed that NHS staff workers could have post-traumatic stress when the pandemic is over. William will continue doing everything he can to ensure that mental health is spoken about by everybody, and that should be applauded.
