British royal family news has emerged highlighting that Kate Middleton wanted to call Prince George by a different name when he was born. It’s almost unimaginable that the prince was almost called a different name, and it’s fair to say that royal fans would be pleased that they eventually decided to opt for George over the other name that they was thinking of. Although, there is still a ring to the name that Kate had in mind for the prince.

According to a report in Vanity Fair, Kate has her heart on calling her son Alexander. The report also admits that the sex of the baby was kept a surprise until the second it was born, and by that time apparently Kate changed her mind and decided to call her new son George. However, as a fellow Alex, it would have been nice to see the future king called Alexander.

The same report also reveals that Kate was bonding with Prince George long before he was born, as she would often rub her bump and refer to it as ‘our little grape’. Kate’s pregnancy was announced in December 2012 by St James’s Palace, with the decision coming just two months after it was revealed that there would be changes to the royal procession.

The announcement meant that Kate and Prince William’s first born would be the heir to throne following William. George was finally introduced to the world in July 2013, with the couple beaming. While Alexander may have not been his first name, it was made his official middle name.  Since then, William and Kate have had two further children, with Princess Charlotte born in May 2015 and Prince Louis born in April 2018.

British Royal Family News: Heritage Of Prince George’s Name

There is history behind George’s name, as he was named after Queen Elizabeth’s late father. There were also betting markets open for the name of the royal baby, with Alexander being the favourite. However, it had to make do with being the future King’s middle name as he was officially titled His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge.

Fans have been kept delighted during the period of lockdown as they have been treated to numerous pictures of the royal family; including Prince George and William and Kate’s other children.
