British royal family news has revealed that Prince Harry has been left heartbroken with the announcement that one of the anti-poaching dogs that he was most fond of has been put down. The 11-year-old canine was responsible for arresting over 200 poachers throughout his life.
The dog was called Killer, and was an essential part of the operation with the Special Operations Team. The 11-year-old worked at Kruger’s National Park, and was an integral part of the team in South Africa for eight years. Killer would distract the poachers, which would, therefore, give the officers time to capture and arrest them.
British Royal Family News: Killer Awarded With High Honour
Prince Harry was made aware of the work that Killer did in 2015, when he visited the Kruger National Park. A year later, Killer was awarded with a canine version of the George Cross. The honour was awarded to Killer by comedian Ricky Gervais in a ceremony in 2016.
The dog made history in 2015, when Killer’s ‘testimony’ was used in a court room to find a defendant guilty. Killer’s handler Amon Mzimba pleaded for the evidence to be used in the court. Due to his role in the trial, two poachers were convicted.

Mzimba was with Killer until the end according to the reports. Along with the handler, the unit manager was also in attendance to stay by the dog’s side. Johan de Beer issued a heartfelt statement after the news of Killer’s death had spread. He revealed that Killer was one of the first anti-poaching dogs, but injuries to his legs meant that he was in a lot of pain.
It was also revealed that the dog’s ashes were taken away and that they would be spread across somewhere that Killer loved to be. After Killer was put down, Mzimba revealed that he was honoured to have been by his side throughout his life. De Beer also revealed that Killer’s legacy will be forever remembered.
