British Royal Family News says that Meghan Markle has reached out to a teen biracial girl who was set on fire last week by four white men in what is being called a hate crime. According to new reports, the Duchess of Sussex connected with an 18-year-old by the name of Althea Bernstein after hearing about her horrifying experience. Here’s what you need to know.

Page Six reports that Michael Johnson, CEO and President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County, Wisconsin, confirms that Meghan Markle reached out and checked in on the kids in Madison last week. He has also been acting as Bernstein’s spokesperson. He said in a Facebook post that Meghan and Althea spoke for about 10 minutes before Prince Harry joined in on the call.

“Prince Harry shared that young [people’s] voices matter and that Madison have our thoughts, prayers and wishes,” Johnson writes. He also say that the Duchess of Sussex spoke to Althea about faith and being biracial and advised her not to log on to social media to read any of the comments about her case.

“[Bernstein] and Meghan talked about the importance of self care and allowing herself to heal. And she applauded her for the way that she responded and pretty much said, ‘Hey Michael, give me her cell phone number. I want to stay in touch. And let me know when you want me to come back and talk to people in Wisconsin,’” Johnson tells the station. “She’s struggling. It’s a challenge for her; it’s very, very emotional. I talked to her three or four times today, and I’ll tell you Meghan lifted her spirits.” Johnson also added that he was impressed with the way Meghan mentored Althea over the phone. “As I heard her, I thought, ‘She has to talk to more kids,’ and I’m thankful she agreed to do it,” Johnson added.
