Billie Eilish has been granted a restraining order against her stalker John Matthews. The order is to last for five years, which brings the ordeal to an end.

The harassment had been going on for around six months. The result: Billie had been suffering from emotional trauma after threatening letters were sent to her. The restraining order claimed that Billie suffered “emotional injury including fear for my safety, fear for the safety of my family, and loss of my sense of peace and tranquillity and security in my home and‚ personal space resulting from the repeated instances of harassment.”
This had such an impact that Billie felt unsafe in her own home, and it forced her to act. Given that the singer and her brother personally record their music at home, where the studio is based, the action was justified. When addressing the issue, Billie said: “I no longer feel safe going outside my home and enjoying basic physical exercise in my neighbourhood, as he could attempt to approach and hurt me. Every time I see him, I just want to scream.”
And given by the content of one of the notes, it was natural for Billie to feel like this. The content of such a note included what could not be interpreted as other than a threat of death. The note said: “You can’t get what you want unless what you want is to die for me … You will know that soon the water will rise, and you might very well die … You will die.”
Added to that, John was allegedly waiting outside a school near Billie’s house so that he could get a glimpse of her. Then on occasions that he did see her, his body language was very threatening. It included motions such as throat-slitting, which caused the singer extreme alarm and distress.
He had also approached the house. Billie stated: “While we waited for security, Mr Rousseau remained on our porch, sat down and began to read a book while also continuing to engage in a periodic monologue. My father repeatedly asked him to leave, but he refused.”
