Hollywood actor Ben Affleck has spoken on how he was only affected by the media’s perception of him as his children got older.
Ben Affleck Admits He Suffered From Media Scrutiny As His Kids Got Older
It is no secret that Ben has had a lot of personal problems in his life. His marriage to his ex-wife Jennifer Garner was marred by substance abuse issues. This led to him publicly going into rehab on three occasions.
Although he has managed to overcome those issues, the very fact of the matter is that it is going to play out for the rest of his life, especially since a relapse could occur at any time. And having had his public life play out in the media, there is no way of hiding it from his children.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he said: “I got to a place where [the public perception] was so different from who I am that I just stopped reading and stopped caring.
“But then, as my kids got older and started seeing the Internet themselves, that’s the difficult part.” That is why Ben understands that he must continue to stay on the straight and narrow for the sake of his children.
His romance Jennifer Lopez is bound to help that journey, especially since she prides herself on making sure that she is in good health.
In addition, by having Jennifer at his side, he has managed to finally find some happiness by settling down with someone. In this way, it has aided his co-parenting relationship with his ex. But that does not mean that Ben is out of the woods just yet.
He added: “Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is a full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family.”
By opening up to his fans, Ben has managed to improve his public image because it shows that he is vulnerable. And by doing this, it demonstrates a commitment that he wants to get his life in order which can only be a good thing for everyone involved.
