Of the trailers Netflix has dropped this year, one of the shows that really caught my attention was The Witcher. Starring Henry Cavill, best known for his role as Superman in several DC films, it looks amazing. It’s also something outside of what you normally get from Netflix: a show with a fantasy setting. You had the popular Hemlock Grove, a show I enjoyed despite it having a syrupy pace in the first two seasons. The pacing aside, I felt it warranted a fourth season. It’s one of those Netflix shows you finally start in time for the new season and realize it’s…

Netflix tends to debut a show or film weekly. Sometimes they pop up with little fanfare—probably because of little interest—while most of the time there’s hype behind them. My pick for Netflix Pick Friday is V Wars, starring Ian Somerhalder and Adrian Holmes, two veterans of network TV and The CW alums. The Walking Dead: World Beyond However, The Walking Dead: World Beyond is keeping the formula of the franchise as the base to tell fresh stories. That formula being that the walkers are more like weather or a reoccurring disaster and the real threat…
HBO Europe’s Umbre is one of those shows I’m arriving late to. I mean, HBO shows tend to build up a following quickly and you can’t avoid hearing about them. The Wire, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Westworld, Game of Thrones—once people take to an HBO series, you’re going to hear about it every weekend a season is running. Umbre: A Romanian Crime Tale Umbre is one of those that floated under the radar and I’m surprised. The network excels at crime dramas and this one—taking place in the Romanian underworld—is a strong series. What works about this show besides a strong cast and a…
