Amy Schumer has revealed how she approached hosting the Oscars by refraining from making certain jokes.

The ceremony would ultimately be clouded by the actions of Will Smith, who had uncharacteristically decided to slap comedian Chris Rock on the grounds that the latter had made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss.

But for Amy, she was not going to place herself in any form of controversy, as she expanded on how anything to do with Alec Baldwin’s prop gun incident on the set of ‘Rust’ was off limits. And yet, reports emerged that she was considering telling that joke, which she has denied.

In a post to her fans on Instagram, she said: “I also was never going to say the Alec Baldwin joke at the Oscars. But I am saying anything I want at my live shows. Hope you come out.” The majority of people would agree with that.

And the same could be said of the negative perception that Will has received in the aftermath. Amy further spoke on how she was very satisfied with her hosting, but this all changed when Will came out with his actions. After all, this was clearly evident by the reaction of everybody around as nobody decided to intervene and stop Will.

In another statement, she remarked: “It was just a f—— bummer. All I can say is that it was really sad, and I think it says so much about toxic masculinity. It was really upsetting.”

The response on social media was much the same. People thought that there was no comparison between Chris’ joke and making fun of somebody who had ultimately died. After all, with an investigation still going on in order to determine whether or not somebody is going to be held liable, any joke in this regard would have been in poor taste.

One person wrote: “What happened on the set of that movie is nothing to joke about.” With comedians under so much scrutiny, it is more important than ever to consider carefully what one is going to say. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
