If there’s one thing ‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers have learned about soap operas in general, it’s that almost no one is irreplaceable.
There are the top of the pile stars that fit their roles so perfectly there’s not even a consideration when it comes time to move on, while others aren’t so lucky.
Then there are those that have made a character so big and bold that it’s impossible for fans to imagine anyone else in that role, and any recast actor or actress will face an uphill climb to prove themselves.
It’s that area where the Gabi DiMera (Camila Banus) character currently finds herself since the actress left the show months ago after negotiations fell through, and it looks highly unlikely Camila will come back any time soon.
But could a recast be coming in the iconic role>
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers – Out indefinitely
There’s no denying that Camila Banus took Gabi to new heights and ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers personally can’t imagine anyone else playing the role, but we should brace ourselves for the eventuality.
While Gabi was written off to go to prison, we doubt they’ll let her languish there for x number of years under the show either convinces Camila to come back or they move on with the character.
The biggest problem for the show is the write off leaves it open ended, and since secrets and lies never stay buried for long it’s only a matter of time before Li Shin (Remington Hoffman)’s real murderer is discovered.
Since Paulina Price (Jackée Harry) put her foot down and told Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) that the investigation is over despite legitimate doubts, it could be the writers’ way of closing out this chapter and Gabi will be locked away indefinitely.
It’s lazy writing, but it’s similar to how Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) and Ciara Brady (Victoria Konefal)’s absence was handled.
It’ll make Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barish)’s attempts to prove her innocence play out for months or even years and offer him a chance or three to move on as well.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers – Making it her own
While it’s important to note that Camila was a recast for Gabi, she also made the role her own to the point many don’t remember or care that she isn’t the original actress.
Her work was exemplary and her energy made Gabi larger than life, especially when Gabi got fired up or in a confrontation with someone.
If they do recast the role, our personal favorite would be Kate Mansi, though she’s currently working on ‘General Hospital’ as Kristina Davis. There is a chance she could work both like Wally Kurth, but that could be a stretch.
