Welcome to Plathville: Ethan’s Take on Fame

When you’re on a reality show, anything goes. Everyone knows that fans of the show will either love you or hate you and there is never an in-between. Ethan has discovered, along with his Olivia Plath, that being on reality television is not easy and most of the time, it’s not fun.

Ethan told his fans, “I would definitely recommend to anyone being offered a reality show to say no. If I could go back and do it… What’s done is done, and that’s just best to do what we can with what we have and make the most of it. That’s kind of where I stand with that right now.”

We first saw the Plaths on TLC back in November of 2019 and the show was an instant hit. The show focuses on the Plath family, who like the Duggars, are a Christian Fundamentalist family with a lot of children! Kim and Barry Plath never had television and they didn’t let their children get on social media or drink sugary drinks.

The show began to follow Ethan and his older siblings as they moved away and started experiencing life on their own. Alcohol was consumed and new adventures have been had. Things have really changed for them since that first season.

Now Ethan is telling his fans just how he feels about reality television. “I think about how the show may have affected my relationship with my parents, with my siblings, and with my wife.”

His wife Olivia added, “I feel like I wouldn’t have learned a lot of things that I’ve learned or grown in the ways I’ve grown if it hadn’t been for the show. I don’t think I’d be who I am without it. There are obviously pros and cons to everything. But I guess I see that it’s been a lot of good in my life. A lot of really, really hard things, probably a lot of really hard conversations or feelings that wouldn’t have come up, that we wouldn’t have dealt with, that we wouldn’t have gone through if it hadn’t been for the pressure of doing it publicly.”
