James Franco had his first interview in nearly 4 years to share his side of the story and sexual misconduct allegations. Franco explained that he’s speaking out now because of comments from 2018 and that he took time to “pause”.
“In 2018 there were some complaints about me and an article about me and at that moment I just thought, I’m gonna be quiet. I’m gonna be, I’m gonna pause. Did not seem like the right time to say anything. There were people that were upset with me and I needed to listen.“
Though, he didn’t so much of the allegations as he did excuses for what happened, claiming he suffered from sex addiction.

Franco said, “it’s such a powerful drug and I got hooked on it for 20 more years.” He says he realizes his behavior is part of an addiction. At the time he felt it was merely something happening between consenting adults. During the interview, Franco also spoke about his longtime friend and long-time co-star Seth Rogen who spoke out about his actions.
Franco spoke about Rogen saying, “I just wanna say, I absolutely love Seth Rogen.” Though it was hard to hear Rogen speak out against him and say that he wouldn’t be working with him. “Of course, it was hurtful in context but I get it. He had to answer for me because I was silent. He had to answer for me and I don’t want that. And so that’s why it’s one of the main reasons I wanted to talk to you today: I don’t want Seth or my brother or anyone to have to answer for me anymore.”
