‘Counting On’: Josh Duggar protective custody rights and privileges

‘Counting On’ Spoilers tells us that, when the guilty verdict was announced for Josh Duggar, we all thought he would immediately be locked up and the key thrown away but apparently that is not the case.

Keep in mind, Josh has not been sentenced yet, so right now he awaits sentencing in protective custody at the Washington County detention center in Arkansas, when he is sentenced he will be transferred to a federal facility that is not in Arkansas and probably several states away from his family.

‘Counting On’: Josh Duggar protective custody rights and privileges

But for right now, until he’s sentenced, this is what he’s looking at as far as rights and privileges go where he is being housed.

He gets one hour out of his cell every day, during that time he can make phone calls, any and all phone calls are collect and have to be paid for by the recipient. (Let’s hope Anna is good with money.) If he wants kiosk visits, then they must be scheduled 24 hours in advance.

Some individuals do get access to the internet via a tablet in their cells, but it is unclear if Josh Duggar will have access to this kind of thing. We’re thinking due to the nature of the crimes committed – probably not, but stranger things have happened. Email is not through a personal email, but rather any and all emails go through a prison system email.

AS for regular mail that is sent to Josh, that is all scanned and read through the kiosks, prisoners are not allowed physical letters or items in their cells. The only real mail they are allowed is if their attorney sends them legal paperwork, that is the only physical things that they are allowed in their cells.

So it basically boils down to one hour of communcation a day, no physical things besides legal paperwork in his cell, and Josh is being held in protective custody which means he does not have a cellmate and he is alone for the majority of the time.

He doesn’t have anything to distract him from thinking about all of those things that he did. When Josh is sentenced and transferred, that facility will have a totally different set of rules.

As for conjugical visits, no prison allows them under Arkansas state law, but so far, contrary to popular reports, Duggar has not requested them. We’ll keep you updated on any further news in the case. Stay tuned!
