‘The Bachelor’ Spoilers: Rachel Lindsay Speaks On Chris Harrison’s Decision To Leave The Show

In an interview with Extra, Lindsay revealed how she did not envisage Chris walking away: “It was never my intention to see Chris Harrison step aside, but it was my intention for others to see and hear this interview. It’s important to further and highlight these discussions. Nevertheless, she believed that the discussion was necessary in order to resolve these issues. She added:

“The only way to do that is to have these uncomfortable conversations so we can understand the underlying issues and implicit racism that exists within our society. When we can learn to recognize implicit and unconscious bias that history of our environments have taught us, then we can challenge one another to be better for ourselves but also for this society.

But she did acknowledge that she was against the so-called cancel culture. She continued: “Let’s not label, let’s not cancel, but let’s hold people accountable for their actions. Let’s set the example in this generation so that we don’t repeat the horrific mistakes from the past and so we can unify and be the change that this country needs to make this society better for the next generation.”

Chris, for his part, did apologize immediately. He said at the time: “To my Bachelor Nation family — I will always own a mistake when I make one, so I am here to extend a sincere apology,” he wrote on Wednesday, February 10. “I have this incredible platform to speak about love, and yesterday, I took a stance on topics about which I should have been better informed. While I do not speak for Rachael Kirkconnell, my intentions were simply to ask for grace in offering her an opportunity to speak on her own behalf.

“What I now realize I have done is cause harm by wrongly speaking in a manner that perpetuates racism, and for that, I am so deeply sorry,” he added. “I also apologize to my friend Rachel Lindsay for not listening to her better on a topic she has first-hand understanding of, and humbly thank the members of Bachelor Nation who have reached out to me to hold me accountable. I promise to do better.”
