The veteran actor recently spoke out about the recent suspension in filming, as all three of the major networks have suspended production because of the coronavirus outbreak. When ‘General Hospital’ announced that they would be pressing the pause button on filming back in mid-March, many had assumed that the suspension would only last a few weeks. Well now it appears as though it’s going to be another several weeks before Hollywood and the rest of the entertainment industry is back up and running again. And for the soap world, this is troubling as there is no new content for new episodes for the month of May.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Star Wally Kurth Says Filming Suspension Might Turn Into A Disaster For The Soap Industry
Speaking about the matter while on The Freddie and Alyssa Show, Wally hinted that the current suspension might have disastrous results for the soap industry, and especially for the ratings. That’s because if there is a long period without any new content, fans and viewers are going to lose interest in the storylines. The veteran actor said, “They’re going to run out of shows, and I think that’s dangerous. All I know is that I remember the days when during the O.J. Simpson trial we lost a lot of viewers because once viewers tune out it’s sometimes hard to go back.”
Of course, the lone exception might be ‘Days of Our Lives’, as they have enough content to last them until October. The NBC soap is the only one in the daytime television industry to film six months in advance. And because of it, Salem might end up getting some new fans and viewers along the way. At least, that’s what the show’s producers and writers are hoping for!
