Amazon has taken down a modified photograph of Prince George that was being employed to promote a £19.99 plastic machete.

It is reported that the image of the young royal, taken during his third birthday party in 2016, was digitally altered to advertise an axe set from the company Zhou-long.

Amazon has confirmed that it would take action against any seller failing to abide by its rules, including potentially terminating the seller’s account, which resulted in the withdrawal of the contentious image from the online store.

Matt Porteus took a photo of the young Prince at his parents’ estate, Anmer Hall, wearing an outfit that included a striped jumper from Pepa & Co, priced at £29.40, and Trotters shoes. This image was included in a set of four photographs released by Prince William and Kate Middleton to commemorate the Prince’s birthday.

In some comments at the time, the Palace remarked: “The Duke and Duchess hope that people will enjoy seeing these new photographs. They would like to thank everyone for all the lovely messages they have received as Prince George celebrates his third birthday.”

With that being said, people had a lot to say about the picture. After carrying out searches for some products, one observer, Frank Aldridge, was taken aback by what he had seen: “I don’t suppose this has the royal seal of approval.” The response on social media was much the same.

A certain subset of people began to make a running joke out of the whole thing. Meanwhile, others were outraged that the privacy of the royals had been violated in such a brutal way.

One person wrote: “So it should be. Just because Royal does not make him fair game. He’s a child. He has feelings and rights. No one gave this company the right to use this image,” while another person stated: “I thought it was illegal to use one’s image without their or their parent’s consent.”
