A woman was shocked when she found out how much data Amazon has collected from her smart speakers. She shared a video to TikTok explaining how she requested to see her data but was not expecting to see how much she received.
TikTok user my.data.not.yours said she had requested all the data Amazon had on her and that she had two Amazon Dots and one Amazon Echo in the house. When she downloaded the ZIP file, there were a ton of folders that came with it.
One of the folders contained thousands of audio clips that were collected when she spoke to her smart speakers.

TikTok User Has Discovered File With Thousands Of Audio Recordings From Her Amazon Smart Speakers
She said that there were 3,534 audio clips in that one folder alone as well as a file that contained all the contacts from her phone. Of course, they also have her location on GPS and she explained that she wasn’t thrilled about that. While we already knew that this was going on, it’s bizarre to see all of her information in that file.
An Amazon spokesperson said,
“We give customers transparency and control over their Alexa experience. Customers can easily review and delete their voice recordings, or choose not to have them saved at all, at any time. Customers can import their mobile phone contacts to the Alexa app so they can use features like hands-free calling and messaging; this optional feature, which customers need to set up, can be disabled at any time. Finally, you can grant permissions for the Alexa app to use certain data, such as your mobile device’s geolocation, to provide relevant results (e.g., weather, traffic, restaurant recommendations), and you can manage these permissions in the app.“
