So much for being friends, eh? Even though Alec Balwin has maintained that he has been on good terms with Halyna Hutchins’ family since her fatal shooting, there’s a new report that says her family is now suing the actor for wrongful death. Here’s what you need to know.
Lawyers for the family of Halyna Hutchins announced the lawsuit filed in New Mexico in the name of Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, and their son, Andros, at a Los Angeles news conference. At least three other lawsuits have been filed over the shooting, but this is the first directly tied to one of the two people shot.
Alec Baldwin Is Getting His Pants Sued Off By Halyna Hutchins’ Family
Halyna Hutchins died after Alec Baldwin allegedly shot and killed the cinematographer on accident while on the set of the film. A video created by the attorneys showed an animated recreation of the shooting. The attorneys said in the video that Baldwin had turned down training for the kind of gun draw he was doing when he shot Hutchins.
Last month, nearly three months after the shooting, Baldwin turned over his mobile phone to authorities in his home state of New York. They gathered information from the phone and provided it to Santa Fe County investigators, who had obtained a warrant for it.
In his first interview with Good Morning America, when asked if he felt guilty over Halyna’s death, he said, “No. No. I feel that… someone is responsible for what happened and I can’t say who that is, but I know it’s not me. Honest to God, if I felt that I was responsible, I might’ve killed myself if I thought that I was responsible. And I don’t say that lightly.”
He added that he dreams about the incident “constantly” and his career may well be over. “I couldn’t give a s**t about my career anymore,” he said.
