Activists have admonished Prince Harry for reiterating his stance on using drugs, contending that he is impressing a troubling impression on kids.
Activists Slam Prince Harry’s Drug Comments-‘This Can Send A Message That Drugs Help’
The Duke of Sussex commented on how taking cannabis aided him in managing his mental health following the demise of his mom. In addition, he spoke of an overall joyful experience with ayahuasca, a psychedelic drug, that he felt gave him a feeling of relaxation.Â
During a discussion with psychotherapist Dr Gabor Mate, the Duke of Sussex said the following: “[Cocaine] didn’t do anything for me, it was more a social thing and gave me a sense of belonging for sure, I think it probably also made me feel different to the way I was feeling, which was kind of the point.
“Marijuana is different, that actually really did help me.” Those comments did not sit very well for the following reasons. First of all, it inadvertently came across as though Harry was advocating such drugs.
And given that he has such mass influence, his comments could sway other people’s opinions on it. Secondly, even if Harry did support such a stance, there were concerns that he should not have spoken about this openly, but rather, done through an official organization.
Fiona Spargo-Mabbs, who created a charity for teaching about drugs following the death of her son, Daniel, due to an accidental MDMA overdose, expressed her worry about the remarks with the following comments: “Our work is with under-18s and our concern is that this can send a message that is going to make young people think that drugs are going to help them with stuff that is really difficult.
“It is a time when a lot of them are struggling with their mental health.” It is fair to say that Harry’s comments did not go down well. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
