“Sad day for our Hall of Fame family with the passing of Rickey Henderson one of the greatest to ever play the game you’ll be dearly missed Brother RIP Rickey,” tweeted Hall of Famer Wade Boggs, reflecting the sentiments of many across the league.

Henderson’s impact on the game was undeniable. He holds the all-time record for stolen bases with 1,406, a mark that may never be surpassed. He also holds the record for runs scored with 2,295, a testament to his ability to get on base and create scoring opportunities.

“No one has touched home plate more. No one has stolen more bases. And no one has come around quite like him since,” wrote one fan on social media, capturing the essence of Henderson’s unique and impactful style of play.

Henderson’s career spanned 25 seasons, during which he played for nine different teams, including the Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays. He was a two-time World Series champion, winning titles with the Athletics in 1989 and the Blue Jays in 1993.

Tributes poured in from across the baseball world, with players and coaches sharing their memories and expressing their condolences. Former Boston Red Sox outfielder Josh Redding, who had the privilege of learning from Henderson, shared his profound respect for the legend.

“I’m heartbroken at the news about the legend Rickey Henderson. To be able to be taught by someone I idolized as a kid, it meant so much that he took time to teach so many of us,” Redding wrote.

Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy shared a heartfelt anecdote about his interactions with Henderson during his time with the Athletics, highlighting the legend’s approachable and engaging personality.

“He would come in almost everyday and play cards with the boys,” Lucroy recalled. “Class act and great dude. I used to mess with him by saying that he was lucky I wasn’t catching when he was trying to steal. I’d have thrown him out. Probably not true but he would say, ‘naw man you would have no chance lol.'”

Henderson’s impact transcended the field. He was a beloved figure in the baseball community, admired for his charisma, his athleticism, and his unwavering competitive spirit.

In a statement released by his family, they expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from fans around the world. “Rickey lived his life with integrity, and his love for baseball was paramount,” the statement read. “Now, Rickey is at peace with the Lord, cherishing the extraordinary moments and achievements he leaves behind.”
