It looks like Britney Spears partially got what she wanted with the third hearing going forward on the case of her conservatorship. While her father was not removed from the conservatorship entirely, it looks like he now has to share the conservatorship with Bessemer Trust, a third party that Britney wanted in charge of her assets.
Obviously, this is not a full-win because Jamie Spears, her Dad, is still involved. However, he doesn’t have sole conservatorship anymore and that means, Britney potentially has someone on her side in regards to future dealings that involve her estate, which is estimated to be worth over $60 million at this point.
A Leg Up: Baby Steps In The Britney Spears Conservatorship Case
This is bittersweet news for the entire #FreeBritney online movement because her fans want nothing more than for her to be free and to be able to make her own decisions about her life and career. As it stands, Britney can’t drive her own car, and she can’t even get a drink at Starbucks without her Dad having to be involved.
From the Framing Britney documentary, we see that even when she was a minor and making millions back in the late ’90s, was her Dad involved with her career. In fact, her former assistant, Francesa Culotta, said that it was always Britney’s Mom who was involved in one.
Maybe this was sort of an overcorrection on Jamie’s part since he wasn’t that involved when Britney was a child, maybe when she had the breakdown in 2008 he decided that this was a job for Dad and he was going to see this thing through till the end – literally.
However, it’s one thing to sign on until your child is better capable of handling themselves in the world, it’s another to sign on for permanent control of your child’s life when they’re a fully capable adult. So one has to wonder just how many trust issues are actually there underneath it all – because there seems to be plenty.
Jamie Spears had his day of reckoning in court though, I suppose now he’s going to have to come to grips with the fact that he can’t control everything now. I suspect that’s going to be a hard pill to swallow once it sinks in.
This also makes me wonder if, in the future, we might see some new stuff from Britney at some point now that her Dad isn’t in complete control, but I somehow have my doubts. We’ll see. Stay tuned!!!
