It looks like their multi-million dollar investment in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has paid off. Netflix ended last year with more than 230 million global subscribers, it said this week, beating analysts’ expectations as hits such as Wednesday and Harry & Meghan enticed new viewers. Here’s what you need to know.

“2022 was a tough year, with a bumpy start but a brighter finish,” the company said in a letter announcing bumper fourth quarter earnings. This all came after Netflix also announced that co-founder Reed Hastings was stepping down as CEO.

Netflix reported its fourth quarter earnings and announced that an additional 7.7 million subscribers were added during the October-December period. Is this thanks to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle? Maybe. What’s more, Netflix also reported the series Wednesday as its third most popular series ever, Glass Onion its fourth most popular film and Harry & Meghan its second most successful documentary series.

Meanwhile, it looks like the British public just can’t get past the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have thrown the royal family under the bridge in the way they have in their Netflix docuseries, Harry and Meghan. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, but now reports say that half of Britons would love to see the royal couple stripped from their titles for that very reason.

In a survey by YouGov for The Times, 44 percent of those responded said that they think Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should have their titles removed while another 32 percent said that they should keep them. Interestingly enough, another 44 percent of Brits said they have more sympathy for the couple after watching their Netflix docuseries while 17 percent said they have the same feelings about them now like they did before.
