The 2020 Daytime Emmy Awards is right around the corner! But this year’s show is going to be a little bit different. When Hollywood began shutting down production to help curb the spread of the coronavirus back in mid-March, NAAS President and CEO Adam Sharp said that the committee immediately scarped its plans for an in-person ceremony that was supposed to be held on June 14 in Pasadena, Calif. But having an alternative ceremony was something that had been discussed prior to the pandemic.

Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, Sharp said, “It’s a conversation that had been in the works since last fall. When Covid-19 hit, that certainly paused the talks a bit as everyone was trying to figure out what this new environment would be. The conversations had been about the traditional ceremony. Then there was a question of, ‘Well, what are we going to do instead? What inventory is CBS going to have?’ So that put things on pause for a while. And then, as we started to get a picture of what at home, virtual shows much look like, and CBS started to get a sense for its schedule and what they were doing, we returned to the conversation and went ahead. It all just came together very well. It is a homecoming, not just to television but to CBS, which even before this year had done the most Daytime Emmy telecasts and certainly has the most substantial network-owned daytime programming.”

Sharp went on to say that there will be a much more intimate show this year, compared to years past. He said, “All our nominees, presenters, accepters, everyone is going to be on and it’s going to be a great show.”

The 2020 Daytime Emmy Awards airs this Friday, June 26th and will be presented by Sheryl Underwood. Check your local listings for times.
