ABC ‘The Bachelor’ spoilers inidcates that in the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement, former cast members of the Bachelor Nation started a petition to get more diversity on the Bachelor shows. Many of the black cast members spoke out about the Black Lives Matter movement and some even said that host, Chris Harrison, gave “tone-deaf” answers when he was asked about the diversity on the shows. Just days ago, the petition began and POOF! Just like that, there’s a new bachelor and he’s black! There have been a few cast members to speak out about this already.
ABC ‘The Bachelor’ Spoilers: Rachel Lindsay and Mike Johnson Share Their Thoughts
Mike Johnson and Rachel Lindsay are two of the black cast members that wanted to share how they feel about the newest bachelor. Lindsay posted on Twitter about the announcement, “Congrats to Matt James. I am happy to see that a black man was cast after 18 years and 40 seasons. I believe it is a step in the right direction. I would be remiss to not point out that based on the current climate, it feels like a knee-jerk reaction and a result of societal pressure. This announcement, without any further commitments regarding diversity, sweepingly brushes deeper issues under the rug.”

Lindsay had a lot to say! “Until we see action to address the systematic racism within the franchise, the casting news today is equivalent to the trend of posting a black box on your social media account without other steps taken to dismantle the systems of injustice. I look forward to hearing more about the additional efforts the franchise plans to make towards change.”
Mike Johnson, another former cast member, took to social media to share his thoughts as well. “I just want to give a huge shout out to Matt James. I definitely texted him earlier but I want to show him love and shout him out publicly as well. They listened to us, I’m giving you guys a shout out, the fans…You guys marched and sent all these emails, I’m sure…Your guys’ voice is definitely being heard. Don’t feel bad for me at all. I am just so elated. I have so many things coming down the pipeline. I hope that you enjoy my book, I have so much to talk about. Quite honestly, be happy, baby. Don’t say nothing bad about my homie. Matt’s going to do a great job.” We are thrilled to find out that the new bachelor is Matt and we hope he finds the love of his life on the show.
