CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that as we are enjoying the thick of Abbott week, Beth Maitland took to TV Insider to do an insider about some of her most fond memories playing the much-loved Traci Abbott on The Young and the Restless! First introduced in 1982, Beth almost exclusively played the character (with the exception of a few months) and crossed over to The Bold and the Beautiful. As Abbott week plays during the global pandemic, Beth shares her thoughts about her longstanding relationship with character Brad Carlton (Don Diamont).
Traci Abbott had a tumultuous love life in Genoa City. After falling in love with Brad Carlton, she hit several road blocks – one being her sister, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson).

Despite their obvious difficulties, Traci and Brad married (and divorced) twice, and shared a child, Colleen Carlton (Lyndsy Fonseca), together. As viewers are taken back through Traci and Brad’s rocky love story, Beth recalls her experience playing Traci at the time. When recalling the episode on Wednesday, when Brad is with Ashley, Beth recalls, ‘Colleen was trying to be independent and she was becoming reckless. She was acting out and being defiant. The tension in this episode comes from Traci seeing her daughter in Brad’s home.’
Unfortunately, Brad’s fate concluded when he attempted to save Noah Newman (Kevin Schmidt) from an icy lake. During the lifesaving attempt, Brad drowned. Before his passing, Brad told Traci that she was the one who got away. As Beth recalled the episode, “That scene was so revelatory. To have the opportunity – decades after we first started working together – to do a scene like that and bring things full circle? That doesn’t get to happen anywhere else but on daytime.”
Years later, Beth still returns to Y&R as Traci. Traci is now living (and thriving) in New York, “She went on with her life and tried to find some sort of happiness. I’ve learned in my own life that you can only be responsible for yourself. You cannot control anybody else’s choices, feelings, or decisions.
