Television fans that are looking for one of the hardest-hitting true dramas shouldn’t look further than this heartbreaking drama.

ITV’s True Crime Season: What Is Little Boy Blue About?

The series focuses on the murder of Rhys Jones. The story made global headlines in 2007 as Rhys was killed by Sean Mercer. Rhys was aged just eleven when he was killed on the streets in Liverpool. The death got widespread media attention across the United Kingdom when it was revealed, with intense pressure on the policing around Liverpool to clamp down on the violence on the streets.

Little Boy Blue follows the story from Rhys’ families point of view, and how the detective at the front of the investigation had to fight to ensure that Mercer was finally sentenced to life in prison. It is one of the hardest-hitting dramas that is available to watch on television, with viewers all agreeing that scenes involving the parents are heartbreaking to watch.

Some scenes involved in the show were incredibly similar to what they would have been like at the time. With important scenes including Everton Football Club honouring Rhys and the 2,500 people that attended his funeral at Liverpool Cathedral particularly hitting the right balance.

The importance of the story can be understood by the all-star cast that was assembled for the series. Brian F O’Byrne and Sinead Keenan play the roles of Melanie and Steve, Rhys’s parents. Meanwhile, the role of Detective Superintendent Dave Kelly is played by the extremely talented Sinead Keenan. The series is one of the most important true stories that has been commissioned into a drama in recent years, and is one of the most compelling shows of television you are ever likely to see.
