King Charles delivered a personal message about an important cancer update as he gave the news today that his cancer treatment will be reduced in the new year.
Charles has reached a milestone in his treatment, calling it a “personal blessing” and giving thanks for receiving an early diagnosis.
King Charles’ Medical Treatment Has Been Reduced to a “Precautionary Phase”
His medical intervention will continue. However, his doctors now say that his treatment will move into a “precautionary phase,” and it will continue to be gradually reduced.
A source close to the royal family called it “just about the best Christmas gift the monarch could have asked for.”
The King released the good news in a pre-recorded video message. It was filmed at Clarence House as part of Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer night.
Charles shared that the “initial diagnosis could feel overwhelming.” The King encouraged the public to be screened for their own “peace of mind.” He said that early diagnosis “quite simply saves lives.”
Screening for many cancers is available through routine programs or for people with concerns. Those who are coming to the point in their lives where the risk for cancer is higher should be tested.
The King cautioned, “compassion should be paired with action.” Charles has been having weekly treatment since his diagnosis in February 2024. He was diagnosed after a routine procedure.
Buckingham Palace hasn’t revealed the type of cancer the King has. However, they have specified that it’s not prostate-related.
The King has often commented on the incredible advances in cancer treatment. He is impressed how they have improved “the efficiency of treatment and diminished the risks of side effects.”
Charles has chosen to take a highly positive approach to his diagnosis. He was diagnosed early last year. It was around the same time that Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, was also diagnosed with cancer.
Thankfully, Kate released her own video message in September. She was happy to say that her doctors declared her cancer free.
The King Broke Tradition by Releasing a Personal Message on a Private Health Matter
Regarding royal protocol, the King broke with tradition to deliver this personal message on a sensitive and private matter.
The King was happy to release the message to raise public awareness. Every year, nine million people in the UK are not screened for cancer. He worries over the statisitcs.
Charles is living proof that if you catch the illness early, you have a much better chance of a positive outcome. The King described it as “nine million missed opportunities for earlier diagnosis.”
In the King’s personal message to the public, he said,
“This is the season when our thoughts turn to celebrations with our friends and families.”
He continued,
“In the midst of this festive period, I just wanted to ask you to join me today in finding a special place in your hearts, and your minds and prayers for the hundreds of thousands of people across our United Kingdom who receive a cancer diagnosis each year and for the millions more who love and care for them.”
The King added,
“I know from my own experience that a cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming. Yet, I also know that early detection is the key that can transform treatment journeys, giving invaluable time to medical teams, and, to their patients, the precious git of hope.”
