Another African charity cut ties with Prince Harry over a “disrespectful attitude” and not doing enough to halt the poaching of wildlife.
Prince Harry Was The President Of African Parks And Turned Board Member
According to the Daily Mail,
“Chad’s environment minister Hassan Bahkit Djamous gave a damning four-page statement as he announced the end to the country’s 15-year partnership with African Parks.”
The minister accused the charity of
“a recurring indelicate, arrogant and disrespectful attitude toward the government.”
Prince Harry was the president of African Parks from 2017 to 2023, before joining its board. African Parks will no longer protect wildlife and the environment in the area and the surrounding national parks.
Additionally, the document states that the Chadian government accused the charity of financial impropriety and failure to cooperate with the authorities.
This is only the latest scandal to impact the organization. Earlier this year, it claimed the employees in the park had abused members of the indigenous people in the local community.
It is the latest in a series of blows to Harry after an investigation uncovered proof that guards who managed Africa Parks were guilty of human rights abuses and torturing the indigenous people in the Republic of Congo.
The Times also reported an increase in poaching due to a lack of investment in the reserves by the African charity.
The decision puts an abrupt end to the 15-year partnership between African Parks and the government. It’s humiliating to Prince Harry and adds to the already existing controversy surrounding these African charities.
The fresh claims come after the Sentable mess, as the African-based charity, established in memory of Princess Diana, faced a public dispute and investigation that resulted in the resignation of the entire board of trustees.
Earlier This Year, Harry’s Sentable Charity Was Under Scrutiny
There was a serious conflict between Harry, the charity, and the organization’s chairwoman, Dr. Sophie Chandauka. She accused Harry of bullying, misogyny, and racism.
The dispute severely impacted the charity’s reputation and forced Harry to step down from the organization he founded with Prince Seeiso.
Harry was heartbroken over the Sentable row that cost him his charity. The scandal overshadowed the charity’s meaningful work and good intentions.
Additionally, Sentable said that it will also put a stop to its annual charity polo matches, which were Harry’s major fundraising event.
However, African Parks claims that the elephant population has increased considerably since 2010, when the charity took over management of the site.
Yet, African Parks also “illegally collected tourism revenues” and committed other financial abuses, such as a lack of transparency.
As far as the African Parks charity, one woman said an armed guard had raped her as she desperately held onto her newborn baby.
A teenage boy claimed that he had been “groomed for paid sex” by another guard. An activist claimed that a man had been brutally beaten and was ultimately killed after being jailed without treatment for his injuries.
The charity released a statement in May,
“African Parks acknowledges that, in some incidents, human rights abuses have occurred, and we deeply regret the pain and suffering that these have caused to the victims.”
