‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers reveal that Greg Rikaart and Emily O’Brien, who play Leo Stark and Gwen Rizczech, respectively, on Days, recently discussed their characters’ fractured friendship and their real-life connection with Soap Opera Digest.
‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Rikaart And O’Brien Have Hope For A “Gweo” Reunion
Rikaart and O’Brien met in 2006 when they played husband and wife, Kevin Fisher and Jana Hawkes Fisher, on The Young and the Restless. Ever since then, they have shared a close connection and a strong working relationship.
Despite their characters, estranged friendship, the two soap stars adore each other. Rikaart admitted that it came as no surprise to him that Emily would reprise her role as Gwen. They were both excited to work together again.
Rikaart said,
“It always felt like when she left, that it was just a matter of time before Gwen would come back, although I think we both imagined it would happen sooner. So, I was absolutely thrilled.”
He continued,
“I adore Emily. She’s one of my favorite, if not my favorite, scene partners I’ve ever had. And the dynamic between Gwen and Leo is really wonderful. It’s one of my favorite things to play.”
The former BFFs had a serious falling out when Leo had an affair with Gwen’s husband, Dimitri von Leuchner (Peter Porte). Gwen sought revenge against Dimitri by stealing his inheritance. Now, she’s a very wealthy and powerful woman.
Right now, the actress believes Gwen and Leo can patch things up, but she’s dragging it out, given the severity of his betrayal.
O’Brien added,
“But ultimately, I think they’re both the kind of people that, after all of it, they still need each other. They truly need each other, and they love each other.”
She lovingly referred to them as “Gweo.”
‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Gwen Hides Behind Her “Witchy” Demeanor
Gwen thinks she doesn’t need Leo and hides behind her “witchy” demeanor. Yet, underneath all that bravado, she desperately misses her BFF. It was obvious when Gwen and Leo had a run-in outside of Brady Pub in the August 29th episode of Days.
They talked for a bit, and Leo was honest with her about the fact that he missed her and felt remorseful for what he had done to her. He told Gwen that he cared about her and her happiness, which was met with her usual tough act, and she ultimately rejected Leo.
However, the look on her face when he told her how he felt was a brief flash of despair. Gwen and Leo were once very close, and while Leo has his man, Javi Hernandez (Al Claderon), Gwen doesn’t have anything like the friendship she shared with her “Matty.”
They both share a wicked sense of humor, and nothing was more entertaining to watch than when they stirred up trouble together.
Leo definitely deeply regrets his actions that hurt Gwen and desperately wants to make amends. Rikaart explained to Soap Opera Digest that there were some clues in the script that Gwen and Leo may soon move toward a reconciliation.
Meanwhile, Gwen is busy spreading her special brand of charm throughout Salem. She’s a rich and confident woman now and feels that she’s entitled to respect.
However, Leo knows that despite her swimming in money, Gwen is miserable. While Leo admitted he wished they could be friends again. Gwen insisted that she didn’t and to enjoy his happiness while it lasts. She’s still on her revenge tour and refused Leo’s kindness.
While Gwen isn’t exactly the forgive-and-forget type. We have hope that one day soon the pair will be thick as thieves once again.
