Kate Middleton has put her St. Andrews University art history degree to good use. She has curated her art exhibit at V&A East Storehouse in London.

Kate Personally Worked With The Museum’s Curator Team To Select Items For the Exhibit

The Princess of Wales, who is a patron of V&A, personally worked with the museum’s curatorial team to choose eight significant works from their collection to display.

The aim was to show how these historic objects can impact fashion, design, film, art, and creativity today.

The items selected by Kate include a whimsical costume from the 1960s Royal Ballet production of The Sleeping Beauty, designed by Oliver Messel.

She also chose a vibrant watercolor of a forest glade by beloved British children’s author, Beatrix Potter. Kate also picked out a childhood photograph album that belonged to Beatrix’s father, Rupert Potter.

Interestingly, Beatrix Potter is reportedly a distant relative of Kate’s. The collection also includes a handmade quilt from Wales dating from 1830 to 1840. The piece reflects the artistic achievements of women throughout history.

The exhibit was an opportunity for Princess Catherine to put her personal touch on these works. It represents Kate’s personal interests in art.

The storehouse keeps 500,000 works, which is quite impressive. Visitors are encouraged to spend quality time studying the museum’s artwork. The building where the V&A storehouse is located was the site of the 2012 London Olympic Games.

While Kate visited, it was explained to Kate why particular objects are collected and how they are stored, conserved, and displayed.

Kate arrived at the museum and received a behind-the-scenes tour. She was able to see the largest Picasso painting in the world.

Kate Has A Passion For Art And Art History

Kate also met some of the latest collections access team and observed some of the items on display. The storehouse opened to the community earlier this year, and the museum values every creative discipline.

Storehouse is an impressively large museum as it’s bigger than 30 basketball courts. Visitors have a behind-the-scenes experience with art.

The purpose of the museum is to ensure that creative works are available for all to discover. It’s the first museum in the world of its size.

The V&A has proved itself to be a pioneer in the advancement of museum accessibility and public engagement.

The museum revealed the royal’s historic capsule is one of more than 100 varying mini-displays. Kate shared a video on her and Prince William’s Instagram.

Kate is a prime example of someone with a passion for art and art history. She has a keen interest in creativity and design. You can even see that in her fashion preferences.

The Princess was especially interested in the photography section. Kate is an avid amateur photographer herself.

She typically takes pictures of herself, her husband, and her children. She especially enjoys snapping family photos for special occasions.

The art museum is designed to enable people to experience the profound impact of art and to provide the public with a deeper understanding of art history.

According to the Daily Mail, the new V&A East Museum is set to open in Spring 2026. Princess Kate has been a patron of the Victoria and Albert Museum since 2018.
