The upcoming Britney Spears biopic is in danger of never happening due to the pop princess’s indecisiveness, and insiders reveal that she keeps “changing her mind like the wind.”
Britney Spears Claimed The Biopic Would Be A “Fictional Musical”
Britney Spears is not exactly known for her impeccable mental health, and the “Toxic” singer, who is dating ex-con Paul Soliz again, is reportedly tricky to work with.
After an intense bidding war, Universal Studios won the rights to the biopic and will produce it. Wicked director John M. Chu will direct the movie based on Britney’s autobiography, “The Woman In Me,” which came out in October 2023.
Apparently, Britney’s manager, Cade Hudson, is an executive producer on the film. He wants to convey the singer’s message, but the project has no clear direction.
Chu said,
“I want to do her justice and tell her story right. But we’ll see. We’re developing it now, and it’s a long road ahead,”
He explained.
He claimed that a story as “sensitive” as Britney’s needed time to be created and handled carefully, which will take time.
“She represents a generation of people growing up in the 2000s and late Nineties, and she has a story that deserves to be told properly,”
Chu proclaimed.
“There’s a lot about us in it.”
Spears wants to be heavily involved in telling the story and determining its direction, but she’s flighty and can’t decide.
In addition to her wishy-washy behavior, Britney claimed in a social media post last September that the movie wouldn’t be a biopic but it would be a “fictional musical.” She also said that she would be playing an “intelligent character.”
Spears previously had a musical made about her life, but it closed on Broadway only two months after it opened.
Several Names Have Been Tossed Around To Play Britney
Several names have been tossed around in terms of who will get to play the iconic pop songstress. These include “Espresso” singer Sabrina Carpenter and blonde bombshell actress Sydney Sweeny. Millie Bobby Brown admitted playing Spears in her biopic would be her dream role. Johnny Depps’ daughter, Lily-Rose Depp.
Songwriter and producer Claude Kelly explained that for a musical biopic to be successful, it needed to have the right music and be “legit.”
He said,
“A music biopic has to be amazing in terms of acting, but the music’s gotta be legit.”
He cites the Freddie Mercury movie Bohemian Rhapsody as a biopic that did Queen justice with its powerful music.
Christina Aguilera’s Burlesque was also mentioned. It is a good example of a film in which the music and singing are undeniably off the charts.
He thinks that Britney’s story has the potential to be in the realm of one of the greatest if it’s done well.
Since Britney’s biopic is based on “The Woman In Me,” it’s bound to cause some controversy. In her tell-all memoir, she admitted she was pregnant with Justin Timberlake’s baby. When she was nineteen, she and Timberlake performed an at-home abortion.
She also spoke about being in a mental institution, about her conservatorship, and the abusive treatment she received from her father during that time.
