Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have hurried into marriage, according to royal author Tina Brown, who wrote the best-selling book, “The Palace Papers, Inside The House Of Windsor, The Truth and the Turmoil.”
Harry And Meghan Wanted To Start A Family Right Away
Prince William dated Kate Middelton for eight years before he asked her to be his wife. The future King was worried about how quickly the couple’s relationship was progressing, as he feared Meghan wouldn’t transition well into royal life so soon.
Harry claimed he had to marry Meghan as soon as possible because her biological clock was ticking. She was almost thirty-five years old.
William warned Harry to take it slow, but Harry and Meghan had plans to start a family right away. Brown wrote in her book,
“William knew Harry all too well and feared he was heading for trouble. Every time his brother fell in love, it was an eruption of Vesuvius.”
The Prince of Wales quickly pointed out that Meghan was the fourth girl Harry had taken to Botswana in Africa. Botswana was Harry’s “special place.” He took girls whom he thought had the potential to be “the one.” It was secluded and a chance for them to escape public attention and scrutiny.
William didn’t immediately share his concerns regarding Meghan, and when he met her,
He said,
“I was looking forward to meeting the girl who has put that silly grin on my brother’s face.”
Queen Elizabeth II and (then) Prince Charles had high hopes for Meghan’s role in the royal family. Still, William was more observant and picked up on Meghan’s true nature and was the royal with the most reservations about their marriage.
Meghan Became A Source Of Tabloid Fodder For The British Media
William also felt that Meghan wouldn’t have enough time to create a new life in Britain, and she wouldn’t be happy there. She would also have to quit her acting career.
It was also claimed that after Meghan’s first date with Harry, she had children on her mind. In Harry’s tell-all memoir, “Spare,” Harry said that when William asked Harry if he was sure about Meghan,
He asked,
“Do you know how difficult it’s going to be?”
Harry’s response was,
“What do you want me to do? Fall out of love with her?”
Out of desperation, William brought their uncle and Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Charles Spencer, into the controversy, which triggered a “bitter explosion,” according to Brown.

Harry was upset that William tried to involve other family members in their disagreement. The Duke of Sussex proposed to Meghan in November 2018, a little over a year after meeting. The two were married in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May 2018.
There was negative media attention in the months leading up to the wedding and soon after. When Meghan didn’t invite her estranged father, Thomas Markle, and half-sister, Samantha, to their wedding, it became a source of tabloid fodder. She was nicknamed “Duchess Difficult” after allegations that she bullied the palace staff.
Tina Brown asserts that perhaps Harry would still be a working royal had he taken William’s advice about rushing into marriage with Meghan seriously.
