In what some may consider a display of significant disrespect at Aretha Franklin’s 2018 funeral, Pete Davidson revealed in his Netflix special “Turbo Fonzarelli” that he attended the service while under the influence of ketamine.
The comedian humorously recounted the incident, confessing that he approached the late icon’s family in his altered state, declaring, “Hey! I’m just here to pay my R-E-S-P-E-C-Ts!” It’s a cringe-worthy moment, with Davidson joking that Aretha wouldn’t have appreciated his presence or known who he was if she were alive.
During that time, Pete Davidson wasn’t as widely recognized and attended the funeral as the plus one of his then-fiancée, Ariana Grande.
Despite his somewhat lower profile at the time, Davidson acknowledges the embarrassment of being out in public while using ketamine, a substance he used for four years to address depression, despite its dissociative and hallucinogenic side effects. However, he suggests that he has since moved away from using ketamine.

While the audience found the story humorous, Davidson seems to harbor a degree of shame for his actions during that period. He has made efforts to address his struggles, having undergone rehab seven times to curb certain habits.
His most recent rehab check-in was in June 2023, where he also addressed post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder.
Despite his personal challenges, Pete Davidson has been associated with a reputation as a ladies’ man. Recently, he appeared content with his new girlfriend, Madelyn Cline, in a clip obtained by sources.
Interestingly, Davidson chose not to delve into his own love life in the Netflix special, leaving the audience to settle for traditional comedic material rather than intimate details about his romantic escapades.
