Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ spoilers find that today is the day we’ve been waiting for! The release of Netflix’s The Witcher is here. It has already been nothing short of glorious. In episode six of the series, we hear stories of and eventually see dragons! We follow Doppler as he is turned against his employer Cahir, and Geralt and Yen work through some of their issues together. Oh boy, do they have problems! Thank goodness we have Jaskier to relate to!
Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’: Dragons!
The basis of this episode is the hunt for a dragon that’s been terrorizing a local town. It’s said that the creature swooped down and burned the land. We even get a glimpse of the burnt hillside as we traverse up the mountain.
Why are we dragon hunting though? Well, because Geralt saw Yennefer, duh! Yes, even while the man with two beautiful guardians, Tea, and Vea, sits across from Geralt, he is unconvinced. Even Jaskier answers for him, saying absolutely not and that dragons are even too rare to be seen this close. Geralt agrees until that mage walks in. He locks eyes with Yen and immediately agrees to trek along.
There are four teams going after the reward. Geralt, Jaskier, along with Tea and Vea. A group called the reavers, they seem to be the worst of the bunch. A likable group of dwarves (who I’m so glad don’t die!) and Yennefer’s group with a knight.
Relationship Development While Dragon Hunting
Yennefer still searches for a cure to her ability to bear children. Presumably, a dragon’s heart has healing properties that can affect this, though Geralt tells her it is just a myth. We do get to see a special moment for the two, however. They tear each other apart for never staying through the evenings they spend together. When they set up camp, however, we find Geralt still in bed after a night of wooing. He even says good morning. It’s a small moment, but a moment that they show some affinity for each other other than just physical.
After a battle between the reavers and Geralt, they are left at the top of the mountain wanting different things. The dwarves accept some dragon teeth to return to the king for a reward, which is awesome, they were one of the best parts of this episode. Meanwhile, Geralt and Yennefer have an exchange that ends up pushing Yen away.
In the previous episode with the Djinn, Geralt had to use his last wish to save Yennefer’s life. Unfortunately, it has something to do with a relationship, or love, somewhere along those lines that cause them to come back together, even briefly. This causes Yen to believe that whatever feelings between them aren’t actually real, but magic due to the Djinn’s wish-granting.
Geralt takes his frustration out on Jaskier, claiming everything that’s happened lately is his fault. The Law of Surprise he had entered into, the Djinn, and so on. Jaskier is taken back but figures its best to move on. Nothing scarier than a pissed off witcher.
Cahir’s Evil Rage
While on the other side of the world, Ciri and Dara follow “Mousesack”, who’s being copied by Doppler. Through asking questions, eventually, Dara tells Ciri somethings off. She needs to ask the right questions. By asking about Mousesack’s origin and family, Ciri is able to figure out it’s not indeed him.
Dara pulls a knife on him and together they thwart off the enemy. What happens next is up to a bit of debate. As we see Ciri runs off and Dara smacked to the ground. However, Doppler makes his way back to Cahir, disguised as Ciri. In previous episodes we had seen him transform, holding his subject. Is Ciri in on this switch around with Doppler or did he take it upon himself to return?
Either way, Cahir and him get into a knife fight in which neither wins. Doppler makes his way out in an escape through a room full of people. Unfortunately for them, Cahir would slaughter them all, making sure Doppler hadn’t transformed into any of them to hide.
In my opinion, this was one of the slower episodes. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. While still enjoyable it lacked any great excitement and instead focused on small things here and there, prolonging the story. Other than Doppler’s switch there wasn’t anything new to the core story. Yennefer still wants a baby, Geralt acts like a fool around her, Jaskier makes us laugh and we’re still on the adventure of destiny.
