Now that Alec Baldwin is going to face involuntary manslaughter charges for the accidental shooting and unfortunate death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust in October 2021, Eric Braeden has spoken out defending the actor and producer’s role.
On the set, Baldwin was handed a firearm he fired and accidentally shot and killed Halyna Hutchins.

Despite numerous people coming out and going through the safety steps that lead to an actor being handed a weapon, including the actor inspecting and dry firing the weapon into the ground to verify it’s unloaded, Braeden is adamant about it not being Baldwin’s fault and he took to Twitter to voice his reasons.

For the defense

Braeden went on to answer fans questions about whether Baldwin was responsible because he was the producer and if someone set him up.
He made sure to point out he believes it was the fault of the AD for running a lax set and that the producer doesn’t run the set.
Given the problems the set had previous to this incident and that Baldwin is a seasoned actor and was on the set and could’ve done something about it doesn’t seem to factor into that equation.
As for the reason for the charges to be brought, Braeden said:
“Prosecution wanted to go after “A STAR”! Miscarriage of Justice!!” which hints that it’s a political move by the DA and shouldn’t be taken seriously.
Questions raised
There’s no denying Braeden’s career and experience, but there are a couple of things that have raised questions.
As he stated, the armorer shows the actor the unloaded gun to prove it’s empty. That’s a step many have stated and that’s not in question.
What is in question many have stated it’s the actor’s responsibility to verify the gun isn’t loaded, and John Schneider broke it down the process perfectly.
Baldwin’s a veteran actor and has been on sets with guns before, so he knows the procedure. So if the armorer shows him the weapon and it’s obviously loaded as it was in this case, then why would Baldwin not stop it there?
And if the armorer didn’t, wouldn’t that be the actor’s, veteran or otherwise, responsibility to double check the weapon as John Schneider explained?
