CBS ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ (B&B) Spoilers indicates that everyone is shocked and surprised by Douglas Forrester’s decision. His father, Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson), suggested that Douglas be the one allowed to decide who he wants to live with. He has been living with his legal guardian, Hope Logan (Annika Noelle). Thomas contrives an idea to let Douglas choose his future.

Thomas has not always made good choices and doesn’t have legal custody of Douglas. He tried to convince his child to lie for him to cover up for his actions. Because of this, Thomas was fired from Forrester and has been cut off from his family. He has a lot to atone for, but he really does love his son.
For that reason, Hope and her husband Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) have let Thomas spend time with Douglas. Their visits are usually supervised. Thomas is tired of these arrangements. He wants Douglas back in his life.
His argument is that Douglas should be with his family (by blood) and he does not want to share custody. Thomas knows that he really is not able to fight Hope for custody because of his past, but he comes up with a plan to let Douglas decide. While he doesn’t yet have a job or his own home, he tells Douglas his plans and tells him how much he loves him. He wants to Douglas to live with him.

Hope is confident that Douglas will want to continue to live with her and Liam. When they discuss it at home before going to court, Douglas says that he wants to continue to be a part of their family. However, Douglas tells them that he does not want to disappoint anyone. Douglas appears to struggle when Thomas and Hope present their case to him in front of the judge.
It is impossible not to see that he is torn inside. He loves them both and does not want either of them to feel sad. When the judge asks him to write down who he wants to be his guardian, he turns everything upside down. He chooses his aunt, Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) to be his guardian and then asks if she will take him in. She is speechless.
While this may be shocking and surprising to all of them, it is not hard to see that Douglas does not want to cause either Thomas or Hope pain. By choosing someone else, he does not put one of them over the other. He also knows he can trust Steffy, because he has been able to share his father’s secrets with her. She has come through for him in hard times.
