France legend Patrick Vieira expressed his disapproval of Emiliano Martinez’s choice to mock France after Argentina’s success in the recently-concluded FIFA World Cup.

On Sunday, 18th December 2022, Argentina emerged victorious against France in a thrilling 3-3 stalemate that went into penalty kicks. Martinez was the one who secured the win for Argentina with several saves.
During the last seven days, though, the goalkeeper has made a series of subtle insults towards France and, most significantly, Kylian Mbappe, in the wake of his nation’s first World Cup victory in 36 years.
He began by sarcastically asking everyone in the Argentina dressing room to observe a minute of silence in honour of the striker after the team’s win. At their homecoming celebration in Buenos Aires, Martinez was spotted waving a doll with Mbappe’s face printed on it while they were riding on the open-top bus.
With that being said, Viera did not have too many positive things to say about Martinez. In his comments, he said: “Some of the pictures that I saw from the Argentina goalkeeper took away a little bit from what Argentina achieved at the World Cup.
“I don’t think that they really needed that. You can’t control sometimes people’s emotions or decisions, but that was a stupid decision from Martinez to do that.” Martinez is expected to rejoin Aston Villa following his triumphant performance with Argentina at the World Cup for his club duty.
Villa’s boss Unai Emery has made it known that he will be talking to the goalie about his celebratory actions and how to better manage his emotions. In his comments, Emery remarked: “I prefer to be focused on how he performed and how he is going to win with us afterwards.
