Comedian Mark Curry declared that he was a victim of racial profiling due to his African American heritage in an episode that occurred on Friday, 9th December 2022, at The Mining Exchange hotel in Colorado Springs.
Comedian Mark Curry Outraged After Allegedly Being Racially Profiled At A Hotel
The 61-year-old actor-comedian uploaded a video, which showed that there were two men standing in front of him, one of them asking if he was a visitor at the hotel.
As the star lounged on the couch, he conversed with the two guys and addressed his fans: “You cannot be in this hotel lobby if you’re Black and you’re in Colorado Springs … wow this is crazy, isn’t it?”
Curry was talking to two people, one of whom was Caucasian and the other, who seemed to be a person of colour, brushed aside his accusations and declared he was trying to exploit the ‘race card.’ Curry responded in the affirmative: “Yeah, I’m trying to pull the race card, boy.”
The employees stayed standing in front of Curry, who informed that he ‘felt intimidated’ by their posture and the manner in which they were staring at him. Curry then got up and started heading to the restroom, where the two men tailed him.
Afterwards, he expressed his dissatisfaction to the front desk about the men following him, and once again was asked if he was a guest at the hotel. He then requested both of the staff members at the location to reveal their identities.
The response on social media, though, had a different take on the matter. A certain subset felt Curry’s reaction was overboard since the employees were doing their jobs in ascertaining the status of guests.
One person wrote: “This is not racism. This is a common practice. I travel all the time and am always asked to show my key to my room, when not in the room, and even sometimes my registration to prove that I should be in the lobby.”
